MFAN Event Brings Together Key Congressional Staff to Discuss
Foreign Assistance Modernization

MFAN’s highly-anticipated Capitol Hill briefing and panel discussion on modernizing U.S. foreign assistance featured Robin Roizman, Professional Staff Member, HFAC; Connie Veillette, Senior Professional Staff Member, SFRC; Mark Gage, Republican Senior Policy Advisor and Director of European Affairs, HFAC; and Mark Lopes, Senior Policy Advisor, Office of Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ).

More than 180 people from Congressional offices, USAID, the State Department, Millennium Challenge Corporation, Government Accountability Office, Congressional Research Service, United Nations Development Programme, UK Department for International Development, foreign embassies, NGOs, research organizations, and foundations crowded into the HFAC hearing room for the event.

“The overwhelming turnout for this discussion speaks to the high level of interest in modernizing our foreign assistance apparatus,” said MFAN Co-Chair and event moderator Steve Radelet. “This should signal to policy makers that there is intense interest and growing support for the next administration and Congress to take action on modernizing foreign assistance.”
